子生れ石

Koumare-ishi

国宝「聖武天皇勅旨」を所蔵する、弘安6年（1283年）開創の臨済宗の古刹。現在の本堂は、天明6年（1786年）に相良藩主・田沼意次により再建されました。境内にはオペラ歌手・三浦環の記念碑があります。

Founded in the Muromachi period, this temple is considered one of the “Seven Wonders of Enshu” due to the phenomenon of cocoon shaped stones appearing on the hill behind the temple whenever the head priest passes away. The stones are also venerated as stones of “longevity, fertility, and safe childbirth.”
