Hamaoka Sand Dunes

遠州灘に面して広がる太平洋側最大級の砂丘。天竜川から流出する土砂が沿岸潮流や「遠州のからっ風」と呼ばれる強い西風によって内陸に運ばれ、形成されました。冬は強風が創り出す美しい「風紋」が見られます。

This of one of the largest sand dune areas on the Pacific coast, stretching out to face the Enshu Sea. It was formed when sediment from the Tenryu River was carried inland by coastal currents and a strong westerly wind called the “Enshu Karakaze.” In winter, you can see beautiful “wind ripples” produced by the strong breezes.
